The jacket we call the Lockroy takes up the French industrial smock, the garment worn by foremen and workshop workers long before anyone talked about workwear. Worn over the shirt, it had to resist and let you move without weighing you down. Our men's drill jacket keeps that logic, in a shaped cut that structures the torso without squeezing and opens or closes as needed.

Cut and sizing
Shaped cut, neither slim nor loose. From S to XXL, half chest runs from 53 to 61 cm (20.9 to 24 in) and length from 72 to 76 cm (28.3 to 29.9 in). Take your usual size, or one size up to wear it over a thick sweater. The size guide helps you decide.
How to wear a men's drill jacket
Over a T-shirt, the workshop use, direct and unfussy. With a navy beanie and a chambray scarf, as in our photos. With light trousers, Hydron blue lightens clearly: a beige chino or the camel chino. For a moleskin version, see the moleskin jacket.
Care
Machine washable at home, dry cleaning is not necessary: 30 °C (86 °F) inside out, short cycle, mild detergent with no bleaching agent, separately the first few times, because dyed cotton bleeds slightly. No tumble dryer and no fabric softener. Air dry in the shade; iron at medium heat, on the reverse.
Drill, a twill that is not denim
Drill is a cotton cloth woven in twill, that is, on the diagonal, exactly like denim. The difference lies in the dyeing: in denim only the warp is dyed and the weft stays ecru; in drill the cloth is dyed evenly. It therefore does not fade in the same way.
The yarn used here is slubbed: its thickness varies slightly, giving the surface an irregular grain. The cloth has the texture of an old garment without any ageing treatment.

Indigo resists brown and camel; this blue marries with them. It is the work jacket for those who want to get out of the jeans-and-indigo duo. Made in France, shaped without squeezing, for under €100: hard to find anything more right.
Hydron blue, a workshop dye
This blue is duller than indigo. It does not fade in sharp streaks like denim: it lightens slowly and evenly, which suits a piece worn every day. It also goes with colours that indigo resists, brown, camel, warm grey, and takes the jacket out of the strictly denim register.
Signet collar, pointed pockets
The signet-style collar adjusts, with a hidden back button. The jacket closes with five corozo buttons, a vegetable ivory. The sleeves are open, with reinforced cuffs. Three patch pockets outside, sewn in a point with a chain stitch: two lower pockets of 17 × 16 cm and a chest pocket of 11 × 12 cm. A fourth, inside, measures 17 × 13 cm.
