The men's oxford shirt, born on the polo field
At the gallop, the collar points of English polo players flapped and lifted. In the end they were buttoned to the shirt: the button-down collar was born, for a practical reason and nothing else. Students at American Ivy League universities then adopted it, and the men's oxford shirt went from the sports field to the everyday wardrobe. Oxford itself is a cloth: a cotton fabric with a marked grain, which ended up giving its name to the whole shirt. It has been worn since open or closed, tucked in or not, depending on the hour and the place.
Cut and sizing
Straight cut, with about 12 cm (4.7 in) of ease around the chest. In size M, it measures 56 cm half chest, 54 cm half waist, 63 cm sleeve and 73 cm front length; each size adds 2 cm of chest and waist, and 1 cm of sleeve and length. From S to 3XL. How to wear a men's oxford shirt
Open over a tank top, or closed with the sleeves rolled up, as in our photos. Tucked into a beige chino on weekdays, worn out over Japanese jeans at the weekend. On its own in mid-season, or under a lambswool sweater when the cold arrives, collar out over the top. It also comes in white.
Care

The collar, the mother-of-pearl, the pockets
The button-down collar is reinforced to hold its shape without stays. The buttons, at the collar as at the cuffs, are natural mother-of-pearl. On the front, a patch chest pocket; under the collar, the Champ de Manoeuvres Heritage Workwear label. At the back, a shoulder yoke holds the shoulder line, and the cuffs close with a button.

An oxford woven in Portugal
The cloth is woven in Portugal in a basket weave. It is that crossing of threads that gives it its visible grain and a thicker hand than poplin. It weighs 185 g/m²: dense enough to drape sharply and keep its shape in the wash, supple enough to breathe all day. Its sky blue goes with the raw look of jeans as with the beige of a chino.
At the bottom, the side vent is reinforced and the hem topstitched, two places that work with every movement. The shirt is made in Morocco.
