The men's fishtail parka, lined with wool
The M-51 parka was designed to equip American soldiers during the Korean War: it had to protect from cold, wind and rain under heavy use. Our men's fishtail parka keeps that logic but rethinks the lining in natural materials. Inside, a removable vest in 100% lambswool melton, 590 g/m², of Portuguese origin, in anthracite black. It has pockets on each side and can be worn alone, as a vest, when the parka stays on the hook.
Cut and sizing
Straight cut, with about 20 cm (8 in) of ease around the chest to layer a jacket or a thick knit. From S to XXL, half chest runs from 58 to 66 cm (22.8 to 26 in), front length from 87 to 91 cm (34.3 to 35.8 in) and sleeve from 65 to 67 cm (25.6 to 26.4 in). Take your usual size.
How to wear a men's fishtail parka
Over a moleskin work jacket or a thick knit in midwinter, with its liner vest. Without the vest in mid-season, over a henley. The vest on its own, over a shirt, when the weather is mild.
Care
- Machine washable at home, dry cleaning is not necessary: 30 °C (86 °F) inside out, short cycle, mild detergent with no bleaching agent, and separately the first few times.
- No tumble dryer and no fabric softener.
- Air dry in the shade; iron at medium heat on the reverse.
- The wool vest should be aired and brushed more than washed.
A hood that adjusts
The hood, lined in ecru, adjusts to your head: a drawcord and buttons on each side tighten or open it. On the front, the button placket is concealed; the pockets have flaps, and the sleeves tighten at the cuff with a tab. The parka is fully lined.

A parka is really two garments: the full parka for the deep cold, and the wool vest worn alone when the season softens. You buy one piece, you wear two, from October to April. Made in France, it is the parka you keep for a decade.
A peak against the rain
When raised, the hood extends a stiff peak that shields the face from rain. It is a functional detail inherited from field parkas, and it makes the difference on a day of showers, when a collar alone is no longer enough.
The fishtail
The word fishtail refers to the back hem of the parka: a fish-tail-shaped slit, adjustable with a cord, that leaves ease for walking or sitting. The cloth is a 420 g/m² cotton moleskin, tightly woven in France: it resists the elements, patinates and softens with use. The parka is made in France. Quickly adopted by civilians, the M-51 became the uniform of the mods, the subculture born in London at the end of the 1950s.
