These 15 oz selvedge jeans are cut from a cloth that resists you for the first few weeks before bending to the way you walk. Anyone who likes denim knows that this early resistance is exactly what gives the result its value. 15 oz selvedge jeans are always raw. They patinate slowly, according to your movements and your build, before finally breaking in. On the turned-up hem, the red selvedge signs the cloth.
Cut and sizing
Sizes 28 to 36, limited series. Take your usual size: a 15 oz cloth barely relaxes at the waist. If you are new to raw denim, our 13 oz Berto jeans will be more immediate. The size guide helps you decide.
How to wear 15 oz selvedge jeans
With a wool pea coat and black boots, as in our photos. Raw and without a cuff so the patina forms freely, or rolled over white sneakers to show the selvedge. Under a work jacket, the two cloths wear in together.
Care
- Wash them as rarely as possible: that is what builds the patina.
- Air them between wears.
- When needed: 30 °C (86 °F) inside out, short cycle, mild detergent with no bleaching agent, and alone the first few times, because indigo bleeds.
- Air dry in the shade, never in a tumble dryer.
Stamped pockets, copper rivets
The inner pockets are stamped, a manufacturer's finish you only discover with use. The bottom of the back pockets is lined, because it is the second area to give way on a pair of jeans, the one where the wallet slides every day. The rivets are oxidised copper, and the jeans are assembled with Coats jeans thread.

It is the most demanding of our denims. A 15 oz Menpu cloth, woven in Japan on a shuttle loom with hand-picked Zimbabwe cotton, which resists for the first few weeks before giving in to the way you walk. Always raw, with a red selvedge on the turn-up. Here is what that resistance will give back to you.

Zimbabwe cotton, Japanese weaving
First, the fibre. Zimbabwe cotton is picked by hand, which limits breakage and keeps the fibres long: the longer the fibre, the stronger and more even the yarn.
Then the weave. The cloth comes from Menpu in Japan, which weaves it on shuttle looms. These machines close the edge of the cloth: that is the selvedge, which does not fray, unlike denim cut from a wide roll.
The crotch, the area that decides how long they last
On a pair of jeans, the crotch is the first place to give: four seams cross there and the thighs rub constantly. Here, a piece of 100% cotton gabardine is added at that exact spot so wear spreads out instead of concentrating on the seams. The jeans are made in Portugal, in a limited series.
