The men's green sweater, from the countryside

This men's green sweater borrows its shade from a precise wardrobe: that of the British countryside, where clothes, tweeds included, favoured muted greens and browns because they blended with the landscape. Deep green served to melt into the undergrowth long before it became a city colour.

Cut and sizing

Straight cut, neither fitted nor loose, from S to XL. Take your usual size. The size guide helps you decide.

How to wear a men's green sweater

With brown or camel, the classic match of the country wardrobe: a camel chino or a suede-leather jacket. Under a khaki moleskin jacket: two greens of different values create depth. Over ecru trousers, the contrast shows off the green and lightens the outfit.

Care

Machine washable at home: hand wash cold, or wool cycle at 30 °C (86 °F) with a wool detergent. Do not rub or wring; roll it in a towel and dry flat, reshaped, because hung it loses its shape. Steam from a distance rather than ironing. Store folded, away from light, with cedar.

A green that plays the part of black

Forest green is dark enough to play a neutral, but coloured enough never to look dull. Almost black in low light, it shows itself frankly green in sun or under direct lighting. It therefore replaces black to good effect for those who find black too dry. It likes brown, camel, ecru and raw denim; black, on the other hand, completely dulls its depth.

Patina and durability

In three years, this forest green will have the patina of moorland wools.

It borrows its shade from the British countryside, where tweeds and woollens favoured muted greens to blend into the landscape. Almost black in low light, frankly green in the sun. Knitted in first-clip lambswool spun in Italy. Here is how it ages.

  1. dense wool, even surface, structured hold.

  2. it softens at the shoulders and elbows and follows your movements.

  3. arm and waist creases mark gently, without wrinkling.

  4. brushing after wear lays the nap back in place and removes dust.

  5. hung and aired, the wool loses creases and odors; cleaning stays rare.

  6. the nap lies down in the friction zones, the color gains relief.

  7. the cloth has found its shape, shoulders and collar sit right.

  8. wool withstands flexing far better than cotton: the cloth lasts.

  9. a well-kept cloth gains patina without wearing out; a button is sewn back, a lining is mended.

Forest green plays the part of black, without its dryness. It warms brown, camel and jeans. It is the sweater of those who want colour without being noticed.

A fine wool, clean finishing

The wool comes from the lamb's first clip, spun in Italy. This first fibre is the finest and softest: it doesn't itch at the neck, which remains the first criterion of a crew neck. The collar is set in 1×1 rib in the same material, the cuffs and hem in integrated ribbed edges, so nothing gapes or breaks after a few wears. The sleeves are raglan. The sweater is knitted in Morocco in fully fashioned.

Contact us?
What is the quality of Champ de Manœuvres products?

Our clothes are made from exceptional materials (Japanese selvedge denim, French wool from Tournier…) and assembled on vintage machines.

Every piece is designed to last, evolve and develop a patina over time. The fabrics are developed to our own specifications: we design our own weaves, then have them woven by the best mills in the world (Japan, France, Italy, Portugal, Morocco), often on old looms. A new cloth can take up to a year to come to life.

This exacting standard is what sets Champ de Manoeuvres apart.
