The men's corduroy overshirt, between shirt and jacket
An overshirt is worn over something else: a shirt, a T-shirt, a sweater. It sits halfway between a jacket and a shirt, which is exactly what you expect of a men's corduroy overshirt in mid-season. Ours is inspired by the 1950s US Army herringbone utility shirt, worn notably during the Korean War, whose large pockets and straight cut it takes up.

Cut and sizing
Straight cut, with about 14 cm (5.5 in) of ease around the chest. From S to XXL, half chest runs from 55 to 63 cm (21.7 to 24.8 in), front length from 72 to 76 cm (28.3 to 29.9 in) and sleeve from 63 to 67 cm (24.8 to 26.4 in). Take your usual size for a clean fit, or one size up for an oversized volume. The size guide helps you decide.
How to wear a men's corduroy overshirt
Open in mid-season, in place of a jacket. Closed like a thick shirt when it is cold, or as a middle layer under a pea coat. The collar can be worn open blazer-style, straight like a shirt, or buttoned to the top. With Japanese jeans, or in total corduroy with the brown utility trousers.

Machine washable at home: 30 °C (86 °F) inside out, short cycle, mild detergent with no bleaching agent, and separately the first few times, because dyed cotton bleeds slightly. No tumble dryer and no fabric softener, which clogs the fibre and reduces its breathability. Air dry in the shade; iron at medium heat, on the reverse.
A corduroy woven in France
Corduroy is among the toughest cotton fabrics. Ours comes from Velcorex, a French house that has worked with textiles for two centuries. It is a wide-wale cord, called cable cord: relief, hold without stiffness. It was washed before sale, so it arrives supple and already a little lived-in. The cloth then goes to Morocco, where the overshirt is made to our specifications.
Two gusseted 16 × 22 cm pockets
These are what decided us. Two large symmetrical chest pockets, gusseted to take on slight volume, closed with a buttoned flap. They give character to a straight, classic cut, while keeping the silhouette clean.
Seams made to last
The assembly is done with a chain stitch, on an off-the-arm machine. The armhole is felled with a double needle, in a lock stitch, clean inside and out. The buttons are metal, engraved, in a matte platinum colour, and come from Turkey: we preferred them to plastic so they don't come off from repeated buttoning. The cuffs close with a button.
