Men's HBT trousers, from 1941 to today
HBT stands for herringbone twill: the chevron twill, like a herring bone. In 1941, the US Army made it the M1941 work uniform, for soldiers and military workers. The cloth stood up to the mud, tears and heavy washing of the Second World War, then went into surplus after 1945. Our men's HBT trousers, the Lawrence model, keep its pockets and its spirit, in a rethought cloth and cut. They are for those who want to dress a little differently.

Cut and sizing
Fitted cut, roomy at the thigh and tapered at the bottom. From 28 to 36, the half thigh runs from 30.5 to 34 cm and the half opening from 16.75 to 18.25 cm; in size 32, the trousers measure 44 cm half waist, 32.5 cm half thigh and 17.5 cm half opening. The size guide helps you decide.
How to wear men's HBT trousers
With a blue work jacket and black shoes, as in our photos. With the OG 107 overshirt for an openly military outfit, or with an ecru henley to soften it.
Care
Machine washable at home: 30 °C (86 °F) inside out, short cycle, mild detergent with no bleaching agent, and separately the first few times, because dyed cotton bleeds slightly. No tumble dryer and no fabric softener. Air dry in the shade; iron at medium heat, on the reverse.
A herringbone woven in satin, then slubbed
The cloth is woven in France by Velcorex, in its Alsace mill. To match it, a sample of real US Army cotton sateen served as a reference. The herringbone is woven in a satin weave, which gives a silky hand and a gap from the original military spirit. The cotton, 100% French and 13 oz, is then slubbed: a process that adds relief and slight irregularities without making the cloth rough. Dense and supple at once, it can be worn in every season.
Two thigh pockets, all lined
On the right thigh, a cargo-inspired patch pocket with a centre gusset, no flap, closed with a corozo button: 16 cm deep by 10 wide, enough to keep a phone within reach. On the left thigh, a large 22 × 16 cm patch pocket with a slightly pointed, reinforced flap, recalling that of our OG 107 overshirt. At the back, two small flapped pockets; on the sides, hand pockets, stopped with bar tacks.
All the pockets are lined with 100% cotton Italian herringbone, like the crotch reinforcement, which keeps the seam from giving way under a bicycle saddle.
Slimmer belt loops
The original military trousers were wide, made to be worn over other clothes. This one is fitted. A discreet detail: the belt loops have been slimmed down and drawn with a single central topstitch. The trousers are made in Morocco.
Patine et durabilité
In three years, these chevrons will have the patina of a 1941 surplus piece.
