The men's knitted pea coat, from the deck to the knit
The pea coat is first of all a sailor's garment: a short, warm coat, almost always navy blue, with a wide collar and a crossed double-breasted front. In France, the Navy adopted it in 1848, and it became the sailors' winter garment, worn over the jumper. This men's knitted pea coat keeps the codes, the crossover, the collar and the navy, but leaves woven melton for knit. It is worn like a thick jacket, halfway between a sweater and a coat, and closes on one side or the other depending on the wind.

Cut and sizing
Straight cut, with about 9.5 cm (3.7 in) of ease around the chest: enough to slip a fine sweater or a shirt underneath. From S to XL, half chest runs from 52 to 58 cm (20.5 to 22.8 in), front length from 67 to 72 cm (26.4 to 28.3 in) and sleeve from 61 to 64 cm (24 to 25.2 in). It therefore stops at hip height, shorter than a woven-melton pea coat. Take your usual size.
How to wear a men's knitted pea coat
Over a turtleneck, for the simplest version; over an oxford shirt, for a dressier outfit. Below, a beige chino or Japanese jeans. When the cold gets serious, our wool melton pea coat takes over.
Care
Machine washable at home, dry cleaning is not necessary: hand wash cold, or wool cycle at 30 °C (86 °F) with a wool detergent. Do not rub or wring: press out the water, roll it in a towel, then dry flat, reshaped; wet, a knit of this weight loses its shape if hung. Between washes, simply air it. Store folded, away from light, with cedar.
A 1.4 kg Milano knit
Milano knit is a double-faced knit, dense and even. Its structure makes it stable: it deforms much less than a single knit, and keeps a clean drape that follows the body without stiffening. Knitted in virgin Schoeller® wool, it offers a compact, almost dry hand. The pea coat weighs 1.4 kg: this weight gives both warmth and poise, where a light knit would end up bagging at the elbows and shoulders.

In three years, this knitted pea coat will have the suppleness of an old cardigan and the look of a coat.

The double-breasted front is set with horn buttons, a natural material chosen for its strength. The pockets are linked: assembled stitch by stitch, they are one with the knit and don't distort under the weight of the hands. The pea coat is knitted in Morocco.
