The men's chambray shirt, from blue collar to wardrobe
Chambray owes its name to Cambrai. A cloth of French origin, it was adopted by the American working class before becoming the uniform of blue-collar workers, sailors and soldiers, then moved from the workshop to Hollywood without changing shape. Its construction is simple: an indigo-dyed warp thread crossed with an ecru weft, in plain weave, which gives that irregular blue shade. Our men's chambray shirt keeps that workwear logic, in a Japanese chambray.

Cut and sizing
From S to 2XL, half chest runs from 51 to 59 cm (20 to 23.2 in), front length from 71 to 77.5 cm (28 to 30.5 in) and sleeve from 63 to 66 cm (24.8 to 26 in); it also comes in XS and 3XL. The shirt is cut close: take one size above your usual size for a comfortable fit. The size guide helps you decide.
How to wear a men's chambray shirt
Under an Eugène workwear jacket, collar out. Under a suede-leather jacket for a contrast of materials. With a cuffed beige chino, or black jeans for two blues that don't look alike.
Care
Wash it as rarely as possible, and preferably by hand. In the machine: 30 °C (86 °F) inside out, short cycle, mild detergent with no bleaching agent, separately the first few times, because indigo bleeds. No tumble dryer: air dry in the shade. Iron at medium heat on the reverse if needed.
A chambray woven in Okayama
The cloth is a 100% cotton chambray, 9 oz, made in Japan by Collect on traditional looms in the Okayama region. It is a grade-A cloth, chosen for its hold. Its blue, bright at the start, has been patinated to give the effect of a shirt already worn.

The chambray shirt is proof that a work garment can be elegant without changing anything. Denser than ordinary chambrays, it holds the collar and takes on a patina you can't buy. It is the shirt you end up wearing three days out of seven.
A patina that took time
We wanted to reproduce the look of an old shirt without damaging the material. Several formulas were tested, and the behaviour of the cloth was checked after many washes before we offered the shirt: that is what delayed its release. Let's be frank about the trade-off: a patinated cloth becomes more delicate. Wash it by hand, and it will last.
Sewn on an Union Special
The shirt is assembled on a vintage machine, the Union Special 37800, which gives the seams their relief. The two chest pockets are rounded, double-needle stitched, and reinforced with bar tacks at the opening. They close with cat's-eye buttons, dyed indigo, and keep a pen or a fountain pen within reach. Made in Morocco.
