In the American army the knitted cap has a precise name: the watch cap, worn to stand watch on a ship or at a guard post. This men's watch cap keeps the shape: a tight ribbed knit, a double cuff that doubles the thickness over the ears, and no joining seam that could itch under a hood. Navy is the most logical colour: it stands up to wear without ever looking dirty.

Cut and sizing
One size: the ribbed knit, elastic by construction, fits every head size, men and women. Laid flat, the cap measures 28 cm (11 in) high by 24 cm (9.4 in) wide.
How to wear a men's watch cap
Cuff up, sailor style: the double cuff frees the forehead and covers the ears, the warmest position. Short cuff, worn back, with a pea coat or a raw denim jacket, as in our photos. Without the cuff, pulled down to the eyebrows, when the temperature leaves no choice.
Care
Machine washable at home: hand wash cold, or wool cycle at 30 °C (86 °F) with a wool detergent. Do not rub or wring: press out the water, roll it in a towel, then dry flat, reshaped. Store folded, away from light, with cedar.
Knitted in Scotland in one piece
The cap is knitted in Scotland, on hand-operated frames, in a fully fashioned knit: it comes off the frame in one piece, with no cutting or joining seam. Nothing marks the forehead after two hours of wear. The wool is dyed in the fibre before knitting, which gives the navy a stable colour.

The blend pairs 75% lambswool, which gives hold and elasticity, with 25% angora, which brings softness. Angora fibre is hollow: it is warmer and lighter than wool alone, because it traps air without adding weight.
