Men's chinos, out of the barracks
The chino comes from the uniform. In the early 20th century, the American army sought a hard-wearing cotton trouser for its troops in hot climates, light enough to last under prolonged use. The word is said to come from the Philippines, where this twill arrived from China. Later adopted by civilians and widely spread by American cinema, it became the trouser that goes from formal to utilitarian without changing shape. Our Officer men's chinos keep its rigour. For absolute authenticity, thrift shops remain the best address; for a period-style chino you wear every day, this is the place.

Cut and sizing
Carrot cut: ease at the thighs, a leg that narrows toward the bottom. In size 32, it measures 43 cm half waist, 35.5 cm half thigh and 22.3 cm half opening at the leg bottom. From 28 to 38. This model runs large: take one size below your usual size. Our model is 1.82 m (6 ft) tall and wears a 32.
How to wear men's chinos
With a white oxford shirt for the week, a henley at the weekend, and a work jacket over the top when the weather changes. The model also comes in khaki and navy.
Care
Machine washable at home: 30 °C (86 °F) inside out, short cycle, mild detergent with no bleaching agent, and separately the first few times, because dyed cotton bleeds slightly. No tumble dryer, no fabric softener. Air dry in the shade; iron at medium heat, on the reverse to protect the colour.
The camel of the beginnings
The model comes in three colours: camel, navy and OG khaki. Camel is the closest to the second original version of this trouser. It is reactive-dyed, a process that fixes the colour so it stays constant through washing. The chino has been washed and dried before being sold: it is ready to wear on arrival.

Camel is the smartest colour of the chino, the one that looks dressed without a suit. It goes with navy, white and brown. It is the trouser that gives class to a simple shirt.
The sides, the pockets, the coin pocket
On many chinos, the side is the fragile part: simply overlocked, with no topstitching, it gives way at the first sudden movement. We reinforced it with two chain-stitch seams, sewn on an off-the-arm machine. The fly and the back crotch are finished with a bias binding.
The pockets take those of the original model, stopped on each side: two at the front, two at the back closed with a button, and a coin pocket, the watch pocket of the time, which today holds change or a guitar pick.
A drill gabardine woven in Italy
The cloth is an Italian gabardine, also called drill or double-twist gabardine, woven in Italy especially for us. It weighs 375 g/m² and offers a smooth, abrasion-resistant surface that gains structure without becoming stiff. Its cotton fibres are mercerised, which makes them stronger and gives a slight sheen: the satin-like weave came about a little by chance from that treatment, and we kept it. One flaw, let's say it: this material creases quickly with movement. That is part of its charm.
