Full size guide →The men's khaki sweatshirt, washed before being worn
This men's khaki sweatshirt arrives with a few years' head start. The vintage wash is applied to the finished garment, not the cloth: it slightly relaxes the knit, breaks the stiffness of new cotton and fades the shade unevenly. The sweatshirt is therefore not new to the eye or the hand; it is already faded, deliberately, and it wears like an old sweatshirt from day one.
- Material: 100% cotton, jersey
- Origin: made in Portugal
- Detail: factory vintage wash
- Detail: an archive khaki
- Detail: French terry 380 g/m²
Cut and sizing
Fitted, not shaped, with a clean drop at the shoulders. From XS to 3XL. Take your usual size: the knit has already been relaxed by the wash. The size guide helps you decide if you hesitate.
How to wear a men's khaki sweatshirt
Over a white shirt, collar out, with navy corduroy trousers and white sneakers: the faded khaki lightens over a dark bottom. With brown, brown corduroy trousers for example, for the warmest match. Under a sand moleskin jacket, two different materials create depth without a uniform effect. With raw Japanese jeans, indigo and faded khaki balance each other.
Care
Machine washable at home: 30 °C (86 °F) inside out, short cycle, mild detergent with no bleaching agent, and separately the first few times. Avoid the tumble dryer and hot water, which would accentuate the fading, and fabric softener. Air dry in the shade; iron at medium heat, on the reverse.
Why the wash matters on a khaki
On a navy, this treatment shows little. On a khaki, it is decisive: a new, uniform khaki looks almost synthetic. Faded, it recovers the muted shade of archive military clothing, a slightly dulled olive green that goes with brown, ecru and denim. It is the same cloth as our navy sweatshirt; only the rendering of the shade differs.
Patina and durability
In three years, this khaki sweatshirt will look ten years old, and that is deliberate.
It arrives with a few years' head start. The vintage wash is applied to the finished garment: it relaxes the knit, breaks the stiffness of new cotton and softens the shade unevenly. An archive khaki, faded and muted, on a 380 g/m² French terry. Here is how it keeps ageing.
-
firm material, solid color, clean finishes.
-
the piece softens where it works the most.
-
wear creases mark themselves and return from one wear to the next.
-
follow the composition instructions; excessive heat and tumble dryers are to be avoided.
-
borders and friction zones soften first.
-
the color shades with use, without aging all at once.
-
the piece is made: supple, familiar, always holding.
-
a seam, a button, a snag is mended in the workshop.
-
nearly three years: a well-kept piece gains in character what it loses in newness.
There are new sweatshirts that take years to become comfortable, and this one, which is from the first day. Its thickness doesn't budge. It is the sweatshirt you put on on Sunday and don't take off all day.
A collar that passes over a shirt
The ribbed round neck is held at the front by a triangular gusset, and the neckline lets a shirt collar through without strain. At the back, a half-moon yoke structures the neckline and stops it sagging forward over time. A woven Heritage Workwear label signs the piece.
A fleece that keeps its thickness
The sweatshirt was born in 1920 from a cotton football jersey, meant to replace itchy wool. Ours is a 380 g/m² French terry, 100% cotton: the reverse is semi-brushed ecru, which lets it keep its thickness where a fully brushed fleece packs down, and the outside is slubbed, with a slightly irregular grain. The 1×1 rib edges are topstitched in flat lock, a flat seam with no inner ridge. The sweatshirt is knitted in Portugal.
We are here to help you
Find here the answers to the most frequently asked questions to help you choose with confidence.
Our clothes are made from exceptional materials (Japanese selvedge denim, French wool from Tournier…) and assembled on vintage machines.
Every piece is designed to last, evolve and develop a patina over time. The fabrics are developed to our own specifications: we design our own weaves, then have them woven by the best mills in the world (Japan, France, Italy, Portugal, Morocco), often on old looms. A new cloth can take up to a year to come to life.
This exacting standard is what sets Champ de Manoeuvres apart.
