The indigo sailor sweater crosses two wardrobes. The construction comes from the deck knit: high collar, snug ends, no metal fastening, so nothing that catches and nothing that rusts. The colour comes from the workshop. Indigo is the blue of denim and of the blue work jacket, the shade you spontaneously associate with workers' clothes: from the 19th century, blue became the colour of the working world. This sweater therefore belongs as much to the work wardrobe as to the maritime one, and that is what makes it so easy to match with raw cloth.

How to wear an indigo sailor sweater
With denim, two indigos of different depth: Japanese jeans darker or more faded than the sweater, never the exact tone on tone. Over a white poplin shirt, collar out, the contrast brings out the depth of the indigo. Under a khaki or sand work jacket, the sweater returns to the workshop wardrobe its colour comes from.

Machine washable at home: hand wash cold, or wool cycle at 30 °C (86 °F) with a wool detergent, separately for the first washes. Do not rub or wring: press out the water, roll it in a towel, then dry flat, reshaped. Steam from a distance rather than ironing. Store folded, away from light, with cedar.
A blue that changes with the light
Navy is a neutral, closed blue. Indigo leans toward violet and keeps a depth that shifts with the lighting: almost dark indoors, brighter in the sun. A deck knit construction
The knit is made in virgin Schoeller® lambswool, a fine fibre that resists wear and humidity. The collar and cuffs are knitted in double thickness: these are the areas through which cold gets in, and the first to relax on an ordinary sweater. Doubled, they stay firm after several seasons. The pieces are joined by linking, stitch by stitch, on a Complett HS.K VD machine, for supple seams that follow the knit. The sweater is made in Morocco.
