The men's sailor sweater knew the deck and the quay long before the city. A working knit had to keep you warm in damp wind, leave the arms free and present nothing that could catch on a rope. Hence its high collar, its snug ends and the absence of any metal fastening. Adopted by sailors and then by the civilian wardrobe, it has crossed time without changing its logic: protect, last, stay legible.
Dark blue won out for a simple reason: it stands up to salt, stains and repeated washing without ever looking dirty. It is the original colour of the model, and the only one of our three versions to wear it.
Cut and sizing
Straight cut, in the tradition of the deck knit: it leaves room for a shirt underneath without flapping. Sizes S to XXL. Take your usual size; if you hesitate, the size guide helps you decide.
How to wear a men's sailor sweater
On its own, with the collar closed, in cold, damp weather: the original use. Over a white oxford shirt, collar out, for a dressier version. Under a pea coat: the two pieces come from the same wardrobe. Below, selvedge jeans or a beige chino. The same sweater also exists in khaki and indigo.
Care
- Machine washable at home, dry cleaning is not necessary: hand wash cold, or wool cycle at 30 °C (86 °F) with a wool detergent.

A doubled collar, corozo buttons
The collar and cuffs are knitted in double thickness. These areas are not chosen at random: that is where the wind gets into a sweater, and where a single rib stretches out first. Doubled, they cut the air and do not gape after a season.
The buttons are carved from corozo, the hardened endosperm of the tagua nut, from Panama. This dense, smooth plant material is worked like a hardwood and is not afraid of rust or everyday knocks.
Patine et durabilité
In three years, this sailor sweater will have the suppleness of old deck knits.

The sailor sweater is one of the few garments that hasn't needed to change in a century. This one adds what the high-street versions lack: a collar and cuffs in double thickness, where the wind no longer gets in. It is the sweater you grab on leaving the house, every autumn day.
A Schoeller® lambswool
The knit is made in virgin Schoeller® lambswool, a fine fibre that resists wear and weather. Its even density traps air without weighing the sweater down, and its hand stays soft at the neck, collar included. The pieces are then joined by linking, on a Complett HS.K VD machine: the stitches are joined one by one, for supple seams that follow the knit instead of restraining it. The sweater is made in Morocco.
