Men's officer chinos, dressed for town
Of the three colours of the Officer model, navy is the dressiest. The chino was born under the uniform, in an American army that wanted a hard-wearing cotton trouser for hot climates, then went civilian and into the office. These men's officer chinos keep its pockets, its coin pocket and its strength, in a shade that is worn with a jacket as with a sweater.

Cut and sizing
Carrot cut, with ease at the thighs and a tapered leg. In size 32: 43 cm half waist, 35.5 cm half thigh and 22.3 cm half opening; from 28 to 38. This model runs large, so take one size below your usual size. Our model, 1.82 m (6 ft), wears a 32.
How to wear officer chinos
With a sky-blue oxford shirt and a jacket, for the office. With a sailor sweater at the weekend. Under a pea coat when winter comes, with a full-grain leather belt and polished shoes. The model also comes in camel.
Care
Machine washable at home, no dry cleaning: 30 °C (86 °F) inside out, short cycle, mild detergent with no bleaching agent, separately the first few times. No tumble dryer and no fabric softener, which clogs the fibre. Air dry in the shade, and a pass of the iron on the reverse at medium heat.
A colour that holds
Navy is reactive-dyed: the colour is fixed to stay constant, wash after wash, where our khaki version, enzyme-dyed, patinates on purpose. On camel as on navy, this process preserves the colour as much as possible.
The cloth is a drill gabardine, called double-twist, woven in Italy for us: 375 g/m², a smooth surface that resists abrasion and gains structure without becoming stiff, in cotton with mercerised fibres. This treatment strengthens the fibre and gives the twill a slight satin sheen, which stands out on a deep blue.

It is the trouser that replaces the suit trouser without the austerity. With a jacket, it is office; with a sweater, weekend. A chino for every day you want to be well dressed without looking it.
Strong where chinos give way
The sides are reinforced with two chain-stitch seams, sewn on an off-the-arm machine: it is often where a chino tears. The fly and back crotch are finished with a bias binding. The pockets of the original model are stopped on each side: two at the front, two at the back deep enough for a wallet, and the coin pocket, the watch pocket of the time, for a few coins.
It was washed before being sold. And like any gabardine of this weight, it creases quickly: you iron it, or you own it.
