The khaki sailor sweater brings together two wardrobes that long ignored each other. The construction comes from the deck knit: high collar, snug ends, no metal fastening. The colour comes from the land troops. The word khaki comes from Persian khāki, "earthy", "dusty": the British army in India first used it in 1848, and the shade attached itself to military uniform in the early years of the 20th century. Dark blue dressed the sea; khaki, the dust of the roads.

How to wear a khaki sailor sweater
Under a work jacket: khaki on khaki works when the materials differ, knit underneath and canvas on top, for example under a sand moleskin jacket. With a dark trouser, a navy chino or Japanese jeans, the khaki becomes the light piece of the outfit. On its own, collar closed, in cold, dry weather. The same sweater also exists in indigo.
Care

A khaki more green than beige
Our khaki is muted, more green than beige, close to troop shades. Placed on a maritime knit, it keeps all the advantages of the deck sweater without its immediate reading: you don't think of a sailor when you see it. That is why it wears more easily than the blue version, which cites the uniform more. It goes with navy, ecru and brown, and becomes the light piece of a dark outfit.

A deck knit construction
The knit is made in virgin Schoeller® lambswool, a fine fibre that resists wear and humidity: this sweater stands regular outdoor use. The collar and cuffs are knitted in double thickness. These are the two zones through which cold gets in, and the first to relax on an ordinary sweater; doubled, they gain on both counts, the thermal barrier and hold over time. The pieces are joined by linking, stitch by stitch, on a Complett HS.K VD machine. The sweater is made in Morocco.
