This men's military jacket is not made from new cloth but from an object: old Russian army tent canvases and tarpaulins, taken down, washed, then recut one by one. These canvases were made to withstand weather, abrasion and outdoor use. They were not designed to be seen but to serve. What you are buying has already had a life, and it shows.
Cut and sizing
Loose, structured cut, designed as an extension of the canvas rather than an ideal construction. From S to XXL. Take your usual size; the volume lets you wear it over a knit. The size guide helps you decide.
How to wear a men's military jacket
As the strong piece over a quiet wardrobe: blue work trousers and a navy watch cap, as in our photos. Over raw denim, with Japanese jeans: two patinating materials that each age at their own pace. In mid-season, over a henley.
Care
- Machine washable at home: 30 °C (86 °F) inside out, short cycle, mild detergent with no bleaching agent, and separately the first few times, because dyed cotton bleeds slightly.
- No tumble dryer and no fabric softener.
- Air dry in the shade.
- Do not try to remove the original marks: they are what gives the piece its value.
The pattern follows the canvas
The principle is called upcycling: reusing an existing material without grinding it up or remelting it. The canvas is cut as it is, in the state time has left it.
Each tarpaulin has its own fading, its repairs and its lighter areas where it took the sun. The pattern therefore adapts to the canvas, not the other way round: the opposite of industrial production, where the cloth adapts to the pattern. Wear marks, creases and old repairs become details of the jacket.
Two armies on the same jacket
The olive drab buttons do not come from new production: they come from dormant US Army stock. Two materials from two armies that stood on opposite sides end up on the same garment, which is why we speak of a pacified piece.
A one-off piece, literally
The phrase is often used wrongly. Here it is literal: two jackets cannot be identical, because they come from different areas of different canvases. One will have a fold mark across the back, another a paler shade on a sleeve. Each piece is numbered by hand, and the series will end when the stock of canvas does.
You should hear this before buying: if you are looking for a new, even jacket, this is not the one. The irregularities are not flaws, they are the whole point.

Before being a jacket, it was a Russian army tent canvas, made for bad weather. We took it down, washed it and recut it by hand in France. Its shades, creases and marks are original. The olive drab buttons come from dormant US Army stock. Here is how it goes on living.
