This men's military leather belt takes the French army's M45 model: a service belt four centimetres wide, designed to hold up heavy trousers and carry equipment without deforming. Its proportions come from there: a width calibrated for the belt loops of work trousers, a thick leather that does not twist, a double-prong buckle that locks firmly. Nothing about it is decorative.

Cut and sizing
Take your waist measurement at the level of the belt loops, not your trouser size. Sizes run from 85 to 110 cm (33.5 to 43.3 in), in cognac or natural leather. A belt of this thickness is stiff for the first few weeks; it then takes the curve of the waist and stays put.
How to wear a men's military leather belt
On raw Japanese jeans, as in our photos: the 4 cm width is made for the belt loops of a thick denim. With fatigue trousers or an officer chino, it returns to its original register. Natural leather darkens faster and more visibly than cognac.
Care
Leather is not washed: no machine, no soaking, no dry cleaning. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth, and nourish it twice a year with a leather milk or cream, in a thin layer. A 4 mm vegetable-tanned leather
The leather is a full-grain cowhide, 4 mm thick. It is vegetable-tanned, the oldest method of making a hide rot-proof and supple; faster chrome tanning took over in the 20th century and dominates today. The vegetable process is slower, and the leather shows it: it darkens, gains depth and moulds to use. At this thickness, it holds up heavy jeans or thick canvas without rolling in the belt loops.
A double-prong zamak buckle
The buckle is double-prong, in zamak, an alloy of zinc, aluminium, magnesium and copper valued for its stability and resistance to corrosion. On the back, a keeper stows the excess leather. The belt is handmade in Morocco and saddle-stitched.
