A pair of 13 oz selvedge jeans is judged on three things: the cloth, the cut and the way the hem is made. On this model, all three follow the same logic, that of the work jean designed to be used every day and worn all year. The cloth comes from Italy, the making and finishing are done in France. Mid-weight, straight at the top and slightly tapered at the bottom, it is the jean you can wear from day one and that keeps improving over the months.
Cut and sizing
The cut follows the thighs then tapers slightly toward the bottom, with a leg opening of about 18 cm in size 32: comfortable and structured at once. Sizes 28 to 36. Take your usual size. The size guide helps you decide.
How to wear 13 oz selvedge jeans
Cuffs rolled over sneakers, as in our photos: a short cuff shows the selvedge and, with time, the roping of the hem. Raw and without a cuff so the patina forms without a fixed crease. With a work jacket, which shares the same raw-material logic, or with an ecru henley.
Care
- Wash them as rarely as possible: denim patinates better that way.
- When needed, 30 °C (86 °F) inside out, short cycle, mild detergent with no bleaching agent, and alone the first few times, because indigo bleeds.
- Air dry in the shade, never in a tumble dryer.
- Between wears, air them out, and avoid the ecru sofa for the first few days.
The inside, the label, the rivets
Open the waistband: the woven Heritage Workwear label is sewn inside. On the coin pocket, silver-plated copper rivets reinforce the stress points, where the cloth pulls with every movement. The crotch, the first area to give on an ordinary pair of jeans, is reinforced with a herringbone piece.
Patine et durabilité
In three years, the hem of these jeans will have made its roping.
A 13 oz Candiani cloth, woven in Italy on a shuttle loom. Made in France, right down to the chain-stitch hem done on an Union Special. The indigo is not fixed: it wears off where you rub and draws your use. Mid-weight, it is wearable from the first day. Here is what follows.

Jeans made in France have become so rare as to be almost impossible to find. These are, with one of the most renowned Italian cloths in the world and a hem that will rope with each wash. They are the jeans for those who want to know who sewed what they wear.
A 13 oz Candiani denim
The cloth is woven in Italy by Candiani, on shuttle looms, which gives it a closed selvedge that does not fray and shows on the turned-up hem. It weighs 13 oz, 100% cotton, in a right-hand twill. This intermediate density gives volume without weighing down the leg: enough to hold and patinate properly, without the discomfort of very heavy denims.
Unfixed indigo
A fixed indigo keeps its colour but tells you nothing. This one is not fixed: it gradually wears away at the points of friction, thighs, knees, pockets, waistband, and the jeans end up tracing the way you sit and walk. The trade-off: for the first few weeks, it rubs off slightly on pale fabrics and leathers.
The hem is chain-stitched on an Union Special 43200G. In the wash, this seam shrinks a little and makes the bottom of the jeans wave: that is roping, which appears after a few months.
