The men's leather flight jacket, born in the cockpit
The flight jacket was born in the open cockpits of the early 20th century: it had to protect from cold at altitude while leaving the arms free in a seated position. In the United States, two models set the genre: the Air Force A-2, made from 1931, and the Navy G-1, according to the history of the flight jacket. This men's leather flight jacket takes up the logic: a thick leather, a shearling collar, ribs that shut out the cold, two large pockets.

How to wear a men's leather flight jacket
Over a waffle henley or a turtleneck sweater, shearling collar up in full winter. With raw Japanese jeans or an officer chino, without looking further. Without the collar, over a chambray shirt, it becomes a mid-season jacket.

A vegetable-tanned cowhide
Vegetable tanning is the oldest way of making a hide rot-proof, strong and supple; faster chrome tanning took over in the 20th century and remains the most common today. Ours is vegetable-tanned, done in Morocco on a thick cowhide. The process is slower, and the leather shows it: a firm hand at first, that softens with wear, and a surface that darkens and shades at the folds, elbows and pockets.

A removable shearling collar
The collar is curly shearling, the woolly hide that serves as a barrier against the wind at the neck, where the cold gets in first. It is removable: keep it in full winter, take it off in mid-season, and the jacket changes character depending on whether you wear it.
Lampo zip, period buttons, French wool
The fastening is a Lampo zip, from the Italian maker, in size 8: a tooth size above average, stronger, in hand-patinated brass. The buttons come from unused vintage American stock. The cuffs and hem are 100% French wool rib, knitted in France, which limit air entering. The two large patch pockets close with snap fasteners hidden under the leather. The jacket is made in Morocco and finished in France.
