This men's speckled grey beanie has the colour of wet granite. In full winter sun it tends toward silver; under a low sky, it moves closer to stone. The result comes from the spinning: tufts of darker fibre are introduced into the yarn before it is spun. The colour is therefore not laid on the surface of the knit, it is in the material. It is the same principle as the Donegal tweeds, where small strands of colour, inserted at irregular intervals, give the cloth its heathered look.
