The men's denim jacket, born in the workshop
The denim jacket did not begin on a stage. From the end of the 19th century, workers, miners and cowboys of the American West wore a short jacket cut from the same denim as their trousers, because the cloth stood up to dust and rubbing. Cinema and rock then took it out of the workshop, and the legend took over. Our men's denim jacket goes back to the jacket from before the legend.

Cut and sizing
Close-fitting cut. From S to XXL, the chest measures 51 to 59 cm flat (20 to 23.2 in) and the length 64 to 68 cm (25.2 to 26.8 in). Take your usual size; if in doubt, compare with the size guide.
How to wear a men's denim jacket
Open over a white T-shirt and camel trousers, as in our photos. Over a chambray shirt, for two blues that don't look alike. Total denim with Berto selvedge jeans: the two cloths patinate at their own pace. In mid-season, a cotton henley underneath is enough. And for a cloth already patinated, there is the Vintage Denim Jacket.
Care
Wash it as rarely as possible: denim patinates better the less it sees the machine. Air it between wears. When it needs washing, turn it inside out, then 30 °C (86 °F), short cycle, mild detergent with no bleaching agent, and separately the first few times, because indigo bleeds. No tumble dryer: air dry in the shade. If needed, iron at medium heat on the reverse.
A 13 oz Candiani denim
The cloth comes from Italy, from Candiani, which has been weaving denim for four generations in Robecchetto con Induno, between Milan and the Alps. Cotton and nothing else, 13 ounces per square yard, about 440 g/m²: a dense cloth, stiff at first, that then takes the shape of the person who wears it. This raw denim has only received a light rinse, which barely softens the shade, and the cloth is treated to limit indigo bleeding.

In three years, this raw jacket will have taken the shape of your shoulders.
Before being a rock legend, the denim jacket was a worker's jacket, cut from the same cloth as the trousers. We start again from that one, in Candiani 13 oz denim, 100% cotton, raw. Stiff at first, it will break at the elbows and open at the shoulders. Here is how.

A denim jacket washed in the factory looks like all the others. A raw jacket becomes yours: every crease will come from your arms, every fade from your gestures. Six lined pockets, an exceptional Italian cloth, and in the end a jacket no other can imitate.
Buttons with our name, pockets for today
From the original jacket we kept the short silhouette, the cotton twill and the two flap chest pockets. Their bronze-coloured metal buttons are engraved with our name.
The inside has changed. The jacket has six pockets: two on the chest, two for the hands, two hidden inside. All are lined with ecru cotton, so the bottoms stand up to keys and coins.
The thread, the stitch, the leather
The jacket is made in Portugal and assembled with thick Coats thread, a thread designed for denim. Hems and cuffs are chain-stitched, as on the work clothes of the past. Connoisseurs look for it for one reason: with each wash, the cloth gently twists along the hem and draws a twisted relief called roping. Finally, a Moroccan cowhide leather label with the CDM logo adds a touch of brown to the blue.

Every piece is designed to last, evolve and patinate over time. The fabrics are developed to our own specifications: we imagine our own weaves, then have them woven in the best mills in the world (Japan, France, Italy, Portugal, Morocco), often on old looms. This process can take up to a year to produce a new cloth.
