The red cap became the emblem of Jacques-Yves Cousteau and the crew of the Calypso. It was itself a tribute to the old "heavy-foot" divers, who wore it under their helmet, in their rubber hood, to cushion knocks of the head against the metal. A strictly utilitarian piece thus became a badge of recognition. This men's red beanie, which we call Marvin, keeps its colour and its simple shape.

Cut and sizing
One size: the natural elasticity of the rib fits every head, men and women. Its thinness also makes it a good first layer under a hood.
How to wear a men's red beanie
Calypso style: pulled down, short cuff, over a pea coat or a sailor sweater. As the only spark on a dark wardrobe, where it replaces the coloured scarf. Over a khaki quilted military jacket, as in our photos: brick red and khaki answer each other.
Care
Machine washable at home: hand wash cold, or wool cycle at 30 °C (86 °F) with a wool detergent, separately the first time. Do not rub or wring: press out the water, roll it in a towel, then dry flat, away from a heat source. Store folded, with cedar.
A deep red, more brick than primary
The red we chose is darkened: closer to brick than to primary red. It goes with navy, khaki and ecru without ever shouting, and it is wearable every day where a bright red would stay a costume piece. The wool is dyed on the fibre, before knitting; still, wash it separately the first time, as a precaution.

You don't wear a red beanie by chance: you wear a story of the sea and of adventure. This red goes with navy and khaki, and is recognised from afar. It is the beanie of men who have kept a taste for the open sea.
Lambswool and angora, one piece
The beanie is knitted in Scotland on hand-operated frames, in a fully fashioned knit: it comes off in one piece, with no joining seam, does not mark the forehead and does not distort in the wash. Lambswool, at 75%, gives hold; angora, at 25%, lightness and softness, because its hollow fibre traps air without weighing it down. The whole breathes and avoids the clammy feeling after an hour.
