Fit

Men's military shorts, cut from the OG-107

From 1952 to 1989, the OG-107 was the work and combat uniform of all the American armed forces. It took its name from its colour, "Olive Green 107", and was cut from an 8.5 oz cotton sateen. These men's military shorts take that cotton sateen, at a weight of about 8.5 oz like the original, and its shade. They keep the logic of a garment made for the field and the heat: an airy cloth, useful pockets, a cut that lets you move, stopping at the knee.

  • Material: 100% cotton
  • Origin: made in Portugal
  • Detail: washed at 95 °C, vintage effect guaranteed

Cut and sizing

Straight cut, slightly loose, that drops to the knee and leaves the leg free, on a bike or a walk. Take your usual size for a clean fit, or one size up for more ease. From 26 to 38; the size guide helps you decide.

How to wear men's military shorts

With a chambray shirt and canvas or leather sneakers, as in our photos. With a white T-shirt, for the simplest version. With an Aloha shirt, for a frank summer look. When the season turns, the same spirit exists as fatigue trousers.

Care

Machine washable at home: 30 °C (86 °F) inside out, short cycle, mild detergent with no bleaching agent, and separately the first few times, because dyed cotton bleeds slightly. No tumble dryer and no fabric softener. Air dry in the shade; iron at medium heat, on the reverse, to protect the colour.

Pockets sized like the trousers

The large front pockets are patch pockets with an angled opening, measuring 27 × 15 cm. At the back, two 17 × 14 cm pockets close with a buttoned flap, as on the uniform trouser, which already had two flapped patch back pockets. All are deep enough for a wallet, a phone or a notebook, and reinforced to stand up to use.

Patina and durability

In three years, these shorts will have seen three summers and kept their shape.

They take up the cotton sateen of the OG-107, the US Army uniform from 1952 to 1989, at the same weight of about 8.5 oz and in the same olive shade. An airy cloth, useful pockets, a cut that stops at the knee. Here is how they live from one summer to the next.

  1. firm material, solid color, clean finishes.

  2. the piece softens where it works the most.

  3. wear creases mark themselves and return from one wear to the next.

  4. follow the composition instructions; excessive heat and tumble dryers are to be avoided.

  5. borders and friction zones soften first.

  6. the color shades with use, without aging all at once.

  7. the piece is made: supple, familiar, always holding.

  8. a seam, a button, a snag is mended in the workshop.

  9. nearly three years: a well-kept piece gains in character what it loses in newness.

Most bermudas look like pyjamas or sports shorts. These have the look of a military piece, with a cloth that breathes. They are the shorts you wear in town without looking on holiday.

Pre-washed at 95 °C, stonewashed

The cloth is piece-dyed, then pre-washed at 95 °C before sale: this high-temperature wash stabilises the fabric and limits shrinkage in wear. It then goes through a stone wash, which softens the raw hand of the sateen, marks the relief slightly and gives the olive green the look of a piece already worn. The shorts arrive supple and keep their shape.

A lined crotch, corozo buttons

The crotch is lined with an Italian herringbone, which protects it from rubbing: a reinforcement appreciated on a bike, a motorbike or a long walk. Inside, the seams are finished with an ecru bias binding. The buttons are corozo, the vegetable ivory, chosen in burgundy to go with the olive green. The shorts are made in Portugal.

FAQ

We are here to help you

Find here the answers to the most frequently asked questions to help you choose with confidence.

Contact us?
What is the quality of Champ de Manœuvres products?

Our clothes are made from exceptional materials (Japanese selvedge denim, French wool from Tournier…) and assembled on vintage machines.

Every piece is designed to last, evolve and develop a patina over time. The fabrics are developed to our own specifications: we design our own weaves, then have them woven by the best mills in the world (Japan, France, Italy, Portugal, Morocco), often on old looms. A new cloth can take up to a year to come to life.

This exacting standard is what sets Champ de Manoeuvres apart.
