How to wear a men's lambswool sweater
Over a white oxford shirt, collar out, cuffs showing slightly: the safest formula. Under a khaki or indigo work jacket, one of the strongest matches in the wardrobe. On its own, with selvedge jeans: two blues of different depth.
Care
Machine washable at home, dry cleaning is not necessary: hand wash cold, or wool cycle at 30 °C (86 °F) with a wool detergent. Do not rub or wring: press out the water, roll it in a towel, then dry flat, reshaped. Steam from a distance rather than ironing. Store folded, away from light, with cedar.
A first-clip wool
The wool comes from the lamb's first clip, spun in Italy. This first cut gives the finest fibre of the sheep: softer, gentler, and much less irritating than adult wool. You can wear this sweater against the skin, collar included. Naturally rich in lanolin, the wool keeps heat while following variations in humidity.
The wool is dyed before being knitted, which gives the blue its stability.
Patina and durability
In three years, this navy sweater will be the one you pick up without thinking.
It is the sweater you don't notice, and that is a compliment. Navy owes its name to the war navies; it takes grey, brown, ecru, khaki and denim. Knitted in first-clip lambswool spun in Italy, dyed before knitting. Here is how it gets through the winters.
-
dense wool, even surface, structured hold.
-
it softens at the shoulders and elbows and follows your movements.
-
arm and waist creases mark gently, without wrinkling.
-
brushing after wear lays the nap back in place and removes dust.
-
hung and aired, the wool loses creases and odors; cleaning stays rare.
-
the nap lies down in the friction zones, the color gains relief.
-
the cloth has found its shape, shoulders and collar sit right.
-
wool withstands flexing far better than cotton: the cloth lasts.
-
a well-kept cloth gains patina without wearing out; a button is sewn back, a lining is mended.
If you were to own only one sweater, it would be this one: it goes with everything you already own. No taste mistake possible, no question in the morning. It is the piece that makes all the others easier to wear.
A collar and cuffs that keep their shape
The crew neck is set in 1×1 rib in the same material, with no buttons to catch. The cuffs and hem are finished in integrated ribbed edges, supple and stretchy. The sleeves are set in raglan. The sweater is knitted in Morocco in fully fashioned: each piece is knitted to its shape, then assembled, for clean seams that don't distort in wear.
We are here to help you
Find here the answers to the most frequently asked questions to help you choose with confidence.
Our clothes are made from exceptional materials (Japanese selvedge denim, French wool from Tournier…) and assembled on vintage machines.
Every piece is designed to last, evolve and develop a patina over time. The fabrics are developed to our own specifications: we design our own weaves, then have them woven by the best mills in the world (Japan, France, Italy, Portugal, Morocco), often on old looms. A new cloth can take up to a year to come to life.
This exacting standard is what sets Champ de Manoeuvres apart.
