Pea Coat Caban Coat

The peacoat originated in European naval wardrobes, worn from the late 17th and throughout the 18th century to withstand cold, wind, and dampness at sea. Its design was dictated by necessity: double-breasted closure, high collar, protective volume, and freedom of movement for navigation.

In this version, the core of the garment features an 800 g/m² French wool fabric, paired with a quilted lining inspired by the M65 liner, to enhance insulation without compromising the coat's structure. The anchor buttons, sourced from dormant US Navy stock, along with its French manufacturing, extend the utilitarian logic of the original design while giving it a more contemporary interpretation.

The cut is designed for daily wear: clean shoulders, balanced length, and sufficient volume for layering without overpowering the silhouette. This peacoat retains the essence of the naval garment but translates it into a cleaner, warmer, and more contemporary piece for today.

What is the quality of Champ de Manœuvres products?

Our clothes are made from exceptional materials—Japanese selvedge denim, French wool from Tournier, etc.—and assembled in our workshop in Toulouse on traditional machines.

Each piece is designed to last, evolve, and develop a patina over time. The fabrics are custom-developed: we design our own wefts, then have them woven in the world's best factories (Japan, France, Italy, Portugal, Morocco), often on antique looms. This process can take up to a year to create a new fabric.

It is this level of requirement that makes Champ de Manoeuvres unique and of high quality.
