Selvedge work jacket

Born in French naval arsenals in the 1930s, the Fernand jacket – or "bleu de travail" (work jacket) – was made from a sturdy denim canvas to equip workers and sailors, allowing them to withstand daily wear and tear, splashes, and bad weather. A symbol of the Trente Glorieuses (the Glorious Thirty), it featured multiple pockets for tools and belongings, before evolving into a stylized civilian garment, worn open like a casual blazer.

The 100% cotton Japanese selvedge denim, 400 g/m² woven in Okayama on vintage looms with a narrow width, offers a dense and stable structure, softened by a rinse wash in France that releases its suppleness without shrinkage. The four patch pockets – chest 12x13 cm, lower 17x17 cm lined with cotton, one inside – provide volume and structure, while the convertible notched collar, reinforced open cuffs, and five corozo buttons (hidden cat's eye counter-button) ensure a vintage military finish.

Its fitted, non-slim cut drapes the shoulders with ease. Worn over a T-shirt or shirt, with lapels visible or buttoned up, it navigates between construction sites and the city with utilitarian elegance.

Contact us?
What is the quality of Champ de Manœuvres products?

Our clothes are made from exceptional materials—Japanese selvedge denim, French wool from Tournier, etc.—and assembled in our workshop in Toulouse on traditional machines.

Each piece is designed to last, evolve, and develop a patina over time. The fabrics are custom-developed: we design our own wefts, then have them woven in the world's best factories (Japan, France, Italy, Portugal, Morocco), often on antique looms. This process can take up to a year to create a new fabric.

It is this level of requirement that makes Champ de Manoeuvres unique and of high quality.
