Description

Immerse yourself in a sartorial journey with our Japanese Sashiko Jacket, a tribute to the traditional art of boro that dates back to the Edo period (1603-1867). Originating as a utilitarian technique to reinforce worn clothing in agricultural communities, Sashiko has evolved into a decorative art form while preserving its original functionality.

Sashiko fabric is renowned for its durability and sweat-wicking properties, making it an ideal choice for workwear. Beyond its practicality, Sashiko is recognized as a sustainable fashion element, allowing the reuse and reinforcement of existing fabrics.

Building on the foundation of our Marina jacket, the design includes three exterior lined pockets and two interior pockets - one buttoned patch pocket and one welt pocket closed with a corozo button - for practical and functional everyday use.

From yellow to blue, the journey from cotton fields to the last seam is transparent. Sashiko fabric, made in Japan, weighs approximately 18.7-19 oz (collect). The cotton is sourced from the USA and hand dyed indigo in Okayama using the rope dyeing technique. This natural oxidation process results in a change from yellow to a beautiful blue hue, creating the unique indigo shade. The manufacturing takes place in our workshop in Portugal, strictly respecting our specifications.

Corozo buttons add a touch of contrast, bringing the marbled light of the wood and a pleasant tactile sensation every time you put on this jacket.

For eco-friendly washing, our method preserves the integrity of cotton fibers without harsh chemicals. Using ozone, a triatomic gas, we achieve a vintage patina without compromising the natural texture of the fabric. This eco-friendly approach helps preserve the environment, aiming to minimize potential stains associated with indigo jackets while preserving the overall aesthetic.

Our Japanese Sashiko Jacket follows the principle of 'less is more', emphasizing quality over quantity. Every detail, from the eco-friendly dye to the corozo buttons, has meaning and is produced in limited quantities. This reflects our philosophy and commitment to responsible production. Rather than focusing on indicators such as CO2 emissions or the distance traveled by the fabric, we emphasize the importance of limited production. Over time, this jacket gains in beauty thanks to its patina. If it becomes damaged, it can be repaired, aligning with the tradition of sashiko or boro fabrics, extending its life and reinforcing its durability.
