Vintage Denim Workshirt

The denim workshirt was born in the early 20th century in the United States as a work top for laborers and farmers, designed to protect them from sun, dust, and tools without hindering arm movement. Worn over a tank top or t-shirt, its thick denim canvas resisted harsh washing and friction; adopted by post-war workers, it quickly became a versatile civilian garment.

Woven from 100% 9 oz cotton denim – twice as dense as classic shirts – the fabric offers a firm hold that softens with wear. Washed and stonewashed for a dark blue, worn-in patina, it maintains its structure after repeated cycles; tight 8-stitch/cm topstitching in dark blue Coats thread, double topstitched chest pockets with cross-stitched four-hole mother-of-pearl buttons, rounded cuff with a gauntlet placket, double-layered stand collar with a US-style tab, reinforced side gusset.

Its straight cut (chest 53 to 61 cm), length 70 to 74 cm, drapes amply: sleeves 63 to 66 cm move freely. Take your usual size; it can be layered or worn open, breathes well in mid-season, and gains character with each wear.

What is the quality of Champ de Manœuvres products?

Our clothes are made from exceptional materials—Japanese selvedge denim, French wool from Tournier, etc.—and assembled in our workshop in Toulouse on traditional machines.

Each piece is designed to last, evolve, and develop a patina over time. The fabrics are custom-developed: we design our own wefts, then have them woven in the world's best factories (Japan, France, Italy, Portugal, Morocco), often on antique looms. This process can take up to a year to create a new fabric.

It is this level of requirement that makes Champ de Manoeuvres unique and of high quality.
