It lets the needle move freely, so the work follows the weave instead of sewing in a straight line. The \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Darning\"\u003edarn\u003c\/a\u003e then integrates into the weave instead of sitting on top of it, like a new weft laid in the worn area.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eReinforce, then darn\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe weakened cloth first receives a reinforcement patch, placed under the worn area; the darn comes after, over the top.
